dear photography friends

Who do you use for your website and blog? Specifically, who do you host through? I keep hearing mixed feedback on the different providers. I totally don’t want to pay $300/month for just the website.

Also, has anyone ever privately purchased a domain name from another person? If so, around how much did the cost come out to (if you don’t mind sharing) and how did you go about making the domain transfer? Just by unlocking domain through your registrar and dealing with the auth code?

That’s all :)

Until next time

  1. You could use wordpress as your site, and then buy a domain name and hosting from BlueHost. BlueHost also has a way to install wordpress with one (or more) clicks from the control panel.

I think it would cost a total of something around $20 or so to do that. There are other factors too. Such as if you wish to purchase a theme for it. BlueHost has unlimited(ish) storage space, so you can host all the photos you want.

WordPress is good for making websites too. It’s a lot easier than writing the code yourself, and it is a lot cheaper than paying someone else to build it for you.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Yea, I guess I want to go a bit nicer for my website. I was thinking Bludomain or Creative Motion Design or something along those lines. I’ve just heard such mixed reviews from so many.

I’ll probably use WordPress for my blog but create a design template to make it look a little nicer.

Thanks for the info! I’ll probably go through BlueHost.

  3. We’ve been pretty happy with wordpress. Although, we did go to upgrade to our own domain and look at migrating our site to wordpress.org so we would have more control over the site. Everything crashed when we did this. So we reverted back to the original wordpress until we can figure something else out.
